Artistic Director
Alberto Justiniano
Alberto is the full-time Artistic Director of Teatro del Pueblo. He develops and performs a large majority of educational residencies at schools, as well as the forum discussions at the Political Theatre Festival. He has been active as a director, playwright, and independent producer for both film and theater. His artistic focus has always been on educating the public concerning multi-cultural themes. Some of his projects include working with Hazelwood, one of the first schools in the north side of Belfast, Northern Ireland to be integrated, and developing collaborative programming to foster understanding between the Hmong and Latino communities. His many honors include the 1994 Leadership in Arts award, for his research on theater as a crime prevention tool, and the 1993 Many Voices Residency Award from the Playwright Center of Minneapolis.
Company Manager
Christina Akers
Christina joined Teatro in 2006, and is also a playwright & director with the company. She's worked artistically and in arts management in the Twin Cities, Colorado, and NYC. She studied directing at NYU and Playwrights Horizons Theatre School, and has worked locally with The Children’s Theatre, SteppingStone Theatre, Hardcover Theater, working with artists such as Lou Bellamy, Michael Sommers, Luverne Seifert, Peter Brosius, and Alyssa Adams, as well as international artists such as Pierre Byland of Burlesk Center clown school in Switzerland. Christina is also Artistic Director for People Sittin’ Around Doin’ Theatre, (psadt.com). She holds a BA in Theatre, summa cum laude, from the U of M, an Author Ballet Playwriting Award, has works published in volumes of Alma Latina, and will have latest work PieRats: The Crusade for Peaches Cobbler produced with PSADT at Mixed Blood Theatre this summer. Educational Coordinator
Sheila Regan
Sheila joined Teatro del Pueblo in February 2007, where she works with our residency programs as well as our school tours and matinees. As a performer, Sheila has performed with Theatre de la Jeune Lune, Nightpath Theatre, Cromulent Shakespeare, Theatre in the Round and Heart of the Beast in Minneapolis; and Redmoon, Collaboraction, and The Mill in Chicago. As a writer-performer, she showcased her work at the Works In Progress festival at Redeye Collaborative, the Around the Coyote Festival in Chicago, and The Et Cetera Festival in Chicago. She has worked as a theatre educator with East Side Arts Council in Saint Paul, and as a company manager for Diversity Theatre in Bloomington, Indiana. She holds a B.A. in theatre from Macalester College and an M.F.A. in acting from Indiana University.
Development Assistant
Victoria Pyan
Victoria joined Teatro del Pueblo in August of 2007 as the Development Assistant. A recent graduate of the University of Minnesota Morris, Victoria holds a B.A. in theatre arts and history. While in school she was fortunate enough to live and study abroad at Trinity College Dublin. As a performer, Victoria has worked at the Manna Fest in 2007 and worked closely with the Dublin University Players while abroad. As a director she’s worked with Theatre Limina, Hardcover, Meiningens (Morris) and D.U. Players (Dublin). Resident Artist
Silvia Pontaza
Silvia grew up in Guatemala City, Guatemala, where she started acting, singing and dancing at age 10 at Instituto Guatemalteco Americano (IGA), Teatro Abril, and Artestudio Kodaly, where she was a member of the company. She also has played many roles in Children’s Theater Teatro Abril Guatemala. She has lived in St. Paul for the past two years. Silvia is also committed to balancing her passion for acting with her passion for teaching.

Joy Chavarria
Joy has been acting in the Twin Cities for the last 24 years. She has worked with many theaters throughout the Twin Cities including Teatro Latino and Illusion Theater, as well as Teatro Esperanza in San Francisco. Joy has been a long-time collaborator with Teatro del Pueblo.
