March 10 - 27, 2011, Teatro del Pueblo and Pangea World Theater are once again collaborating to bring Luis Alfaro's Oedipus el Rey to the stage. Alfaro's modern adaptation puts an interesting spin on Sophocles' classic tragedy. Opening on February 17th, 2011,Teatro del Pueblo with Pangea World Theater presents the Political Theatre Festival, "Latinos in Transition." This year marks the 10th anniversary of the PTF and will feature José Torres-Tama's Aliens, Immigrants & Other Evildoers Feb. l7-19 at 8 p.m. and Dan Guerrero's Gaytino! Feb. 25-26 at 8 p.m. and Feb. 27 at 2p.m.

The National Association of Latino Arts and Culture (NALAC) Regional Arts Training Workshop

*Teatro del Pueblo's Artistic Director, Al Justiniano is a panelist for the NALAC's workshop Creative Responders: Re-Shaping a 21st Century Latino Narrative* "The NALAC invites Latino artists, art leaders, and arts administrators to participate in the 23rd NALAC Regional Arts Training Workshop, which takes place in Minneapolis, MN on October 22-23, 2010 at Intermedia Arts. The NALAC Regional Arts Training Workshop will bring national arts experts and local arts professionals together for a comprehensive professional development training and community dialogue which features panel discussions, workshops, networking opportunities, dialogue, art exhibits, luncheon and evening reception." Teatro del Pueblo is proud to present "The Adventures of Juan" at 4:15pm Saturday, October 9th, 2010 for the Children's EcoArts Festival.
Teatro del Pueblo teamed up with other local organizations to celebrate a healthy environment through the arts. The EcoArts Festival featured live music, dance, and storytelling by local youth and adult performing groups, hands-on children's art activities, professional and environmental demonstrations and ethnic food vendors.
West Side Theater Project and Teatro del Pueblo celebrate the diverse cuisines of St. Paul’s West Side in PHANTOM OF THE KITCHEN
Written by Teatro del Pueblo's very own Al Justiniano, directed by Harry Waters Jr., and with original music by Becky Dale, "Phantom of the Kitchen" celebrates the diverse culinary traditions throughout the West Side of St. Paul. The show featured professional actors on stage alongside West-siders and was presented on the Wellstone Center Stage at the Neighborhood House September 10, 11, and 12, 2010.

REPRESENTA! Bilingual Theater for the Hip-Hop Generation

REPRESENTA! chronicles what happens when Chicano spoken word poet Paul Flores and Cuban rapper Julio Cardenas meet in Cuba at the Havana Hip-Hop Festival. Despite an atmosphere laden with the stereotypes and anxieties that exist between North Americans and Cubans, the two artists develop a friendship. But their relationship, ideals and dreams are challenged when Cardenas decides to stay in the U.S. while on tour in New York City immediately after 9/11.
Presented in Spanish with some English, with English super titles for non-Spanish speakers

Vision-es our work-in-progress series gives new plays further development through public staged readings and studio work between playwrights, dramaturges, actors and directors. Here audiences help playwrights mold their work through constructive dialogue.
Powerful Plays, Strong Female Artists
New this year we introduce all new work from Jerome Fellow Rhiana Yazzie and Many Voices Resident and spoken word artist Lorena Duarte
Lorena Duarte - Born in El Salvador and raised in Minnesota, Duarte graduated from Harvard and now works as a writer, journalist, teacher and spoken word artist. She performs regularly with Palabristas, and has represented Minnesota both at the Individual World Poetry Slam in Vancouver, Canada and at the National Poetry Slam in Austin, Texas. In 2006 she was part of Found in Translation, winners of the Minneapolis MOSAIC 2006 commission, and in 2005 was named one of the top 25 young Latino leaders in Minnesota.
Rhiana Yazzie - A Navajo playwright whose work has been performed from Mexico to Alaska, Yazzie is quickly being recognized for bringing a new generation of stories from the Native American experience to the American Theatre. In 2006 she was invited to The Kennedy Center's New Visions/New Voices Theatre for young audiences residency and is the three-time winner of the Native Radio Theatre new play contest. Her work has been produced by SteppingStone Theatre, Mixed Blood and Teatro del Pueblo to name a few. She is the recipient of a 2008 Smithsonian Expressive Arts award and received a First Americans in the Arts award in 2007 for Outstanding Achievement in Writing.

A fresh new look at the courage among Las Madres and the struggles of their plight, bringing to light both the deep hope to reunite family ties and the complications these discoveries can create.
